What is soft tissue massage?
Soft tissue massage involves hands-on techniques applied to muscles and surrounding soft tissues. At PhysioB, we use flowing strokes, kneading and rhythmic movements, usually with gentle to moderate pressure.
Your therapist adapts these techniques to your comfort, symptoms and goals.
How can soft tissue massage help?
Time to unwind
The session can provide a calm space to relax, with unhurried movements and regular checks on your comfort.
Easing everyday tension
Treatment can focus on areas that feel tense or overworked. Massage may provide short-term relief from some types of muscular discomfort, although results vary from person to person.
A flexible approach
You may prefer flowing strokes across larger areas or more time on one particular area. We discuss these preferences before the session and adapt as needed.
Who might choose soft tissue massage?
It may suit you if you want time to relax, prefer gentle to moderate pressure, or are trying massage for the first time. It can also be adapted for people who want to address specific muscular aches without sustained, deeper pressure.
If your main concern is persistent pain, a recent injury or an unexplained symptom, we can help you decide whether a physiotherapy assessment or medical advice would be more appropriate.
What does soft tissue massage feel like?
Movements are usually smooth and rhythmic, with pressure adjusted throughout. We agree which areas to treat and keep the rest of your body covered.
You remain in control of the session and can ask us to change the pressure, position or treatment area, or pause or stop treatment, at any time.
What happens at your appointment?
We begin with a discussion of your health and expectations. You can tell us whether you would like the session to prioritise relaxation or focus on a particular area. We then adapt the session to your preferences and health needs.
Is soft tissue massage suitable for everyone?
Tell us about your medical conditions, medication, recent procedures, skin problems and any allergies, including sesame allergy, so we can choose suitable massage products.
We may need to modify the treatment or seek medical advice before proceeding. Avoid massage over a recent injury, infected skin or unexplained swelling until the area has been assessed.
How often should I book?
You can book according to your needs and preferences, whether you want occasional relaxation or support with a particular concern. If you book further sessions for muscular discomfort, we will review whether massage is helping.
